GRANT RECIPIENTS ANNOUNCED FOR
FIRST ROUND OF YADA SERVICE GRANTS
The first
round recipients of YADA mini-grants were announced Friday,
April 2. See the list below. The grants are to support
youth and young adult ministries, groups and organizations in
funding projects that promote faith into action through community
service throughout the St. Louis region. The grant deadline
was extended to April 16 to allow for more groups to apply.
The second round winners will be announced in the May issue
of E-News. These grants were made available through a
generous grant given to YADA by the Lutheran Foundation of St.
Louis. A total of 10 youth/young adult ministries, groups
and organizations will receive funds to support their projects.
YADA
is a new initiative of the Interfaith Partnership and Faith
Beyond Walls that seeks to create a young adult community that
is open and accepting of all faiths through dialogue, education,
social and service activities. To become involved, please contact

requested to support a landscaping project on church grounds
and development of an outdoor classroom for future horticulture
education. Youth built and will maintain flower beds and an
organic vegetable garden. Planting took place on Saturday,
April 10th.

Arts Project: Interfaith Mural

requested to support a youth art project. Eighth graders enrolled
in a world religions course will create a faith-based mural
to complement their summer studies. The summer term ends in
July. This project involves appreciation of religious diversity,
synthesis of faith, community, creativity and academics and
beautification of the community.

requested to support beautification project for the historic
'triangle' on 4th Street . E. St. Louis High students and Southern
IL University students would help in the beautification and
mounting of a plaque commemorating this as a historic site.
Project to take place in Summer 2004. This project involves
community beautification, development of an important community
historical site and increases respect and awareness for the
neighborhood among youth and young adults.

Youth Development Initiative

Funds
requested to develop a Summer Youth camp that would provide
a service to the community as well as teach leadership skills
and respect among peers. This project will provide supervision
for 40 children during the summer (who would be unsupervised
in an 'at-risk' neighborhood), empower participants to respond
appropriately to negative peer pressure, teach work ethics,
budgeting techniques, leadership skills, and decision making
to a group of 4 peer youth leaders.

Get Out and Vote (G.O.V.)

House Association

Funds
requested to mobilize youth (ages 11-16) to address the historically
low voter turnout rate in their community. Youth will design
and distribute flyers, buttons and t-shirts, draft and mail
letters, and make phone calls to invite community residents
to a voter registration rally. The rally, moderated by a
youth participant, will be held on Saturday, September 11th
as part of Wesley House's Community Day 2004. This project empowers
youth to lead, raises youth awareness of the importance of civic
engagement and increase youth's sense of civic responsibility.

poisoning is the number one environmental threat to children
under the age of six and is 100% preventable. Damage resulting
from lead poisoning is permanent and can cause behavior problems,
learning disabilities, loss of I.Q and many physiological problems.
If your home was built before 1978 and you are thinking about starting
any home repair projects, we highly recommend this session.
Interfaith
Partnership, Faith Beyond Walls and Safety Support Services,
Inc will sponsor a workshop, for individuals from the faith
community interested in home repair, on lead safe work practices
when doing a home repair project or remodeling and rehabbing.
The workshop is limited to the first 25 participants. Cost
of the class is only $10. Curriculum and instructors are provided
by Safety Support Services, an accredited environmental consulting

STILL NEEDED FOR INTERFAITH TREE PLANTING IN FOREST PARK ON
SUNDAY, APRIL 25
The Jewish
Environmental Intiative and Faith Beyond Walls invite Interfaith
Partnership members to join them in Forest Park for Earth Day
Festivities! Volunteers will plant trees in areas designated
by DJM Ecoscapes to help beautify the park. Volunteers
will assemble at Steinberg Skating Rink in Forest Park at 2:00
p.m. Volunteers are asked to bring gloves. Call the IP

DEADLINE APPROACHING FOR IP'S ANNUAL MEETING COMING IN MAY
The Annual
Meeting is Wednesday, May 19 at 11:30 am in the Zurich Room
of the Chalet at Westport in Maryland Heights. Tickets
are $25 each. The registration deadline is May 12.

present the William D. Chapman Faith in Action Award, the Monsignor
John A. Shocklee Awards and the Abraham's Children Congregational

of Eden
Come
visit the Garden of Eden, a local produce market, which provides
fresh produce, dietary advice and healthy recipes, prepared
by nutritionists. The market can be found at Union Memorial
Church, 1141 Belt Ave. and is open every Saturday from 10 a.m.
to 2:00 p.m. Garden of Eden is a joint effort of Interfaith
artnership, four local churches and St. Louis University's School
of Public Health. All are welcome!
